Trinidad James was born Nicholas Williams on September 24, 1987. James moved to South Atlanta from the caribbean island of Trinidad with his family at a young age. James began rapping in early 2012 and garnered phenomenal buzz with his first single "All Gold Everything" from his first mixtape Don't Be S.A.F.E. (released July 2012). "Gold" received close to 3 million views in less than two months after being uploaded to YouTube on October 17th of 2012. Williams is the head of the indie label Gold Gang Records. In December 2012 James signed a $2 million recording deal with Def Jam Records. On August 1, 2014, James announced via Twitter that he had been dropped by Def Jam and that his debut album would be released for free.
